Potomac Floors vs. Big Box Stores

Home Depot and Lowe's advertise low material prices — then tack on installation, removal, transitions, underlayment, and disposal as separate line items. Here's what you actually end up paying.

What Affects Your Flooring Cost

Your final price depends on a few factors. We assess all of them during the free estimate so there are no surprises.

Material Type

Carpet ($3.25/sqft) is the most affordable. Laminate ($4/sqft) gives you a wood look on a budget. LVP ($5.50/sqft) is the most popular — waterproof and durable. Hardwood and tile ($8/sqft) are premium options that add the most home value.

Square Footage

More area means a higher total, but the per-sqft price stays the same. A 500 sqft LVP project is $2,750. A 1,500 sqft project is $8,250. We measure precisely during the estimate — you don't pay for material you don't need.

Subfloor Condition

If your subfloor needs leveling, moisture barrier installation, or minor repairs, that's included in the estimate. We check for these issues during the free visit so you know the total cost upfront — not after we've ripped up your old floors.

Room Complexity

Simple rectangular rooms are straightforward. Lots of angles, closets, stairs, or transitions between rooms can add time and material. We account for all of this in the estimate. No surprise charges on install day.

Old Flooring Removal

Removing old flooring is included in our all-in price — tile, hardwood, carpet, laminate, whatever's there. Some companies charge $1-2/sqft extra for removal. We don't. It's built into the price.

Don't Let Budget Hold You Back

We offer 0% interest financing for 24 months if you qualify. A 1,000 sqft LVP project ($5,500) is about $229/month. Apply during your free estimate — approval in minutes.
